PHA UK - Documentary Short Film

Documentary Short Film

PHA UK

Documentary short film sharing the experiences of Pulmonary Hypertension patients during the covid 19 pandemic.

The Brief

The charity PHA UK commissioned me to make a short documentary film to creatively tell the stories of people with the rare ling and heart condition during the pandemic. The title of the documentary became ‘Hear Our Voices’.

What We Did

Over a months I worked closely with the charities PR team to identify patents stories that would be the most powerful and diverse for the film and planned a schedule to carry out a series of in person and virtual interviews. We travelled nationally to speak with different people and created a series of individual standalone videos that could be used as case studies by the charity.

Once we had all of the raw material from the interview and B-roll I analysed the content to identify the most powerful talking points and created a narrative that would flow from the start to the end of the pandemic to tell the story of what people had to go through an the emotional and physical impact it had on them. I used visual and audio clips from the news as well as written quotes that people had given about how they were feeling to make the piece as realistic and emotive as possible.

I worked closely with the graphic design team to produce impassive graphics which became an integral part of the story and carefully chose music tracks and sound design that wouldn’t distract from the patent stories but would enhance the experience of the viewers watching the documentary.

The Results

This was one of the best films the charity had ever made and they were delighted with the final result. This film and the additional individual case studies not only highlighted the heartwarming and distressing stories of patenting and their loved ones, but was the centre piece of a special website created as an artistic time capsule to mark the event of the pandemic and how it impacted forgotten members of society who were some of the most vulnerable during the worldwide event.
